We typically use hardwood for our wood turning, which is sourced from local Michigan lumber. Maple, hickory, ash, and cherry are a few types we may use. Wood is finished with wax and oil to prevent cracking, however wood may still demonstrate some cracking or warping especially in very humid or very dry conditions. To control this, apply regular coats of linseed oil, mineral oil, or beeswax polish and keep away from heat source or direct sunlight.
Driftwood sourced from local Michigan beaches, and each is unique. Feel free to reach out for pictures of our current driftwood stock, and choose your own sculpture base! Size varies, but we aim for consistency when possible. Seagull is typically 4” high and 5” long. Driftwood is unpredictable.
