Happy Spring, Happy Mother’s Day, or Happy Today… and of these are good reasons to gift this unique piece. Tulips, stems, leaves and base are all made from wood; carved, sanded and sawed to its one-of-a-kind form. Stain is applied for color, and wood glue is used to hold everything in place. Wood type varies, but I often use maple, birch, hickory, and/or other wood native to our home farm in Michigan. Flower base is birch with bark left on.
Wood is finished with a wax/oil in an effort to prevent cracking, however wood may still demonstrate some cracking or warping especially in very humid or very dry conditions. To control this, apply regular coats of linseed oil, mineral oil, or beeswax polish and keep away from heat source or direct sunlight.
